A Reporting Life in Latin America: Response

I would say that the essay is true crime or non-fiction about Latin America. The "Big Lie" would be that all Latin Americans are murderers as said by Trump but the author goes to investigate the crime and she wonders how much truth is there in the statement. The audience would be Americans or outsiders from Latin America who wouldn't be familiar with the area or history behind it.  Guillermoprieto's thoughts on the drug war are that America caused the increase in illegal drug trafficking which led to the violence and corruption in other countries.

    I agree with you when you said that the audience would be from America or just outsiders in general. It wouldn't be as powerful to somebody who lives in Latin America that sees the crime happen everyday. They just think that it is normal everyday life. I also agree with the essay being non-fiction as this is based on true events.
