Danielle White

My short story inspired by someone in the class who spoke in the discussion yesterday.

It started out as a gloomy Friday night. The air was misty, and the streets were bare. I got laid off on my job a
little more than a month ago, and I was barely making it on public assistance. Please God, please forgive me for what I was about to do. My children were hungry and I had no other choice.
"Freeze!" There was a senior citizen who looked about 85 years old and upper class. She was carrying a fancy clutch purse which, I'm sure had a lot of money in it. Well, I was just about to find out. "Lady! Give me your purse! You heard what I said!" I had a gun in my hand, but it's not I like was going to pull the trigger. So I'm not that evil, Right? I was just trying to scare her. "No you freeze!" I heard from behind. That old lady pressed her life alert machine, and alerted the police. "Damn! I thought to myself. I cried out, "I'm sorry officer, but my kids gotta eat!" Tears started falling down my face. What was I supposed to do now? I just went numb and dropped to the floor in hopelessness.

  1. Danielle, after reading your short story , i understood the point which was also discussed in class , about doing whatever it takes to support and make it. i enjoyed your story and felt like it did just as a short story should. it briefly got to the point in showing us that same meaning that was discussed in class

  2. Thank you so much for the feedback. I am glad that I was able to magnify the importance of personal survival. I really appreciate it, but the story is not quite finished yet. There is more to come.
