Marion (Part 1)

I believe the space break can mean a dramatic pause or some sorts because there is conflict going on between Marion and the people around him. The story William Wei and Marion can have a similar background story because it involves sex and money. One of the ways that children grow too fast is when they have act differently such as drinking, smoking and the way they talk. The significance when they call adults by their first name can be either by matters or by disrespect. All I know about Charles Manson was that he writes poetry. The point of linking this to real world activity is that it still happens to people and some can be afraid to admit it. I think it can have something to do with the setting because not the places are bad.

  1. Hi Jonathan: I'm not sure this technique of writing one sentence for ea. of my questions is serving you well. You end up saying not very much about any one thing. Instead, I would urge you to pick one or two things to write about in detail. So, for instance your comparison of the two stories is pretty weak. I think the similarities--and the differences--are much more profound than you indicate here. For instance, both stories are told in first person. But in the first, we know who the narrator is--William. In the second, it's an unnamed girl who seems to be kind of dead inside. She talks about herself crying in the last two pages and we don't really get a sense that she's upset. Likewise, the space break does something different than you describe. Like I say, fiction is about the thing that never happened before. What does that "One day..." do after the space break?
