Miss Adele and conflict

Conflict is prevalent throughout this story.  Whether it be between Mrs. Alexander and her husband or Miss Adele and both Mr. and Mrs. Alexander at the end of the story.  Mrs. Alexander was seen constantly fighting with her husband throughout the story. The real conflict came at the end of the story. Miss Adele confronts Mrs. Alexander's husband for not giving her respect. He wouldn't even look at her. I know almost everyone has felt this.  I for one hate it when I'm at work and if I'm talking to a child for being disrespectful and they won't even look at me.  Also, I was in shock when Mrs. Alexander went from a sweetheart at the beginning of the story to calling Miss Adele "sir" come the end.  To me, that was soooo disrespectful. I know Miss Adele's blood was boiling once she heard that for the first time.  Conflict is what drives this story to it conclusion.

  1. totally agree i think we all have being in that place. but he called her "sir" becasue she is a transgender and he was being disrespectful. I think we all have seen how transgender people are most of the time judged i think we have to love and respect everyone it do not matter how they look in the outside or their belives.

  2. Maybe the Alexanders are being disrespectful. But aren't a lot of older people just ignorant? Perhaps in this diverse city, people don't have the right to be ignorant, but I guess I usually give older people a pass. Even some of my colleagues, English profs who should know better, sometimes say things that are culturally insensitive. If they're older, I usually give them a pass, but maybe that's wrong too.

    1. And actually, maybe what I just wrote is ageist. Maybe people shouldn't get a "pass" for their age. If they're going to sell corsets to transgender women, they probably should be more sensitive to that clientele. Although, Miss Adelle doesn't know for sure that the Alexanders are racist, she knows that they're transphobic, even if ignorantly so.
