Expanding on the point that I would take this differently if this were written by a man I think I would have felt differently. I would have been more out off to know that a man would only think about sex and the outward appearances of the women he beds. This is pretty evident when he doesn't even know the name of the woman he gave the wrong direction to in his apartment. I would have also thought that he would have made some wise crack at the expense of the poor girl to the cops and they all would have had a good laugh about it. I also would have thought that the author would have had the same real life living arrangement (a very sparse apartment). And for the woman he had become infatuated with to leave him was the best way to leave the guy hanging was probably ripped from his own life as well. To my surprise, when I examined the author's name I was a women's I was a little put off. Did she leave a guy high and dry like this? Did she ever call people and change their messages (this is also pretty dated)? Maybe she was the one who was infatuated with a guy she stalked doing hot yoga? I also did not think that a woman would write about indecent actions so easily as Amie Barrodale illustrated.
I think your last point is interesting, Ashley. I think anyone can describe anything. However, if a man described this porn in such vivid detail, I might wonder if he was a misogynist or at least getting off on writing this down. What do we wonder about the female author who describes these actions so vividly (in the voice of a man)?
