Wunderkammer 1

Why is the Kid "undetermined"? And, if they are undetermined then why does the playwright specify that this character should be played by "a female-identifying or gender-nonconforming actor"? Isn't this "determining"?

I feel like the author of the play wanted the most freedom for deciding on different roles since the Kid is the main character but if the casting director was uncertain then they offered some ideas. It's closer to when teachers would offer different essay topics for specific essay exams and then students would decide on the topic the day of the exam.
