poem 3 and 4

In the poem, ´´WHY POETRY´´ by Craig Morgan Teicher. He talks about himself being afraid of himself for having bad thoughts in his head. Not being able to be the person he wants to be, he felt helpless. He felt that having bad thoughts was going to hurt other people. That is why he was afraid of hurting someone or hurting himself so he started writing poems. He felt that the poems helped him a lot to be distracted and not to have bad thoughts. In his poems he expressed his feelings. The dark in the poem can be the bad thoughts, the fear and the light can be the way in which writing poems helped him to overcome himself and not hurt anyone. In the poem, ´´GRAMERCY PARK´´ by Sylvine Baumgartel. It is a terrorist attack. In the first stanza, I can say that it refers to the people who see through the windows while this attack takes place. In the second stanza, there is talk of an Iraqi girl who could only see her eyes since she was covered.  The third stanza are the eyes of dead people who were killed in the terrorist attack. It is describe that the winners were well prepared. I think that the repetition of the word ´´eyes´´ is because it is being visualized. The phrase "called us all to pieces." I think it means that the people who died on that day have to be commemorated.

  1. HI Gabriela: It does seem like there is imagery in "Gramercy Park" about terrorism or war in Iraq. But Gramercy Park is an upper class neighborhood in NYC. As far as I know there has never been a terrorist attack there (the Twin Towers were 2.5 miles downtown). What is the relation between Gramercy Park and Iraq?
